Director of Network Engineering

Our direct client is looking to hire a REMOTE "Director of Network Engineering Services" for a key leadership role in the Core Technology Services Dept.  
*Must  be able to set the direction of our network services going forward.

Candidates can live ANY WHERE in the USA, however, preference is given to candidates who live in:   Houston Or Atlanta
Occasional travel

  • 10+ years’ experience leading Network Operations and/or Engineering teams
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading complex programs/projects with proven record of successful completion

The Director of Network Engineering Services is a key leader in the Core Technology Services department.  S/he will lead the team responsible for optimizing existing systems, managing infrastructure lifecycle, and reducing work through automation across Client's Corporate Wide Area, Campus, Wireless, Perimeter, Unified Communications, and Data Center Networks.  S/he will also lead the support services necessary to ensure the reliability and consistency of our network solutions for Client's team members.

This position requires proven leadership, communication, influencing, and facilitation skills and has responsibility for designing solutions, collaborating to establish architecture frameworks, influencing technology standards and the supportability of network solutions. 
  • Some travel required (minimum)
  • Ability to work in a heavily distributed enterprise
  • Oversee negotiation and administration of vendor, outsourcer, and consultant contracts and service agreements.
  • Direct all staffing activities, including job descriptions and responsibilities, recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ensure we are compliant within our license agreements and participate in the annual budget and forecast processes.
  • Support our IT asset management lifecycle processes within Service Now’s asset management database
  • 10+ years’ experience leading Network Operations and/or Engineering teams
  • Minimum 5 years of experience leading complex programs/projects with proven record of successful completion
  • Solid documentation skills related to business analysis and requirements gathering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft PowerPoint, Visio, Word, Excel, Project or related applications
  • Strong communication, influencing, and leadership skills
  • Ability to present complex ideas and communicate effectively with senior leaders
  • Appropriate sense of urgency and commitment for critical deliverables
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related technical discipline and/or related field experience
  • Working knowledge in multi-vendor network infrastructure platforms (CISCO, Aruba, Palo Alto etc.)
  • CCNA and other network certifications required
  • ITIL Foundation certification desired

  • Manage the lifecycle of Network systems including tech refresh, code levels, and configurations utilizing automation where possible to minimize defects
  • Develop and drive SLA’s and KPIs for reliability
  • Introduce a culture of innovation within an environment that requires high levels of scalability, security and reliability
  • Build relationships with key architects across the IT organization and collaborate on promoting consistent architectural best practices
  • Partner with other Engineering teams to define strategic technical direction, develop roadmaps, and contribute to project business cases
  • Develop architectures in collaboration with engineering teams, business stakeholders, and technology vendors while ensuring solutions satisfy business needs
  • Drive innovation by advising engineering teams and other stakeholders on the external technology landscape
  • Evaluate new technologies, support POCs/prototyping, and participate in the development of new service offerings
  • Act as a change agent by anticipating technology opportunities, proposing viable solutions, and enabling process/technical innovation
  • Operate in a task-oriented fashion leveraging our Service Now platform
  • Inspire team to exceed expectations, encourage employee growth through professional development, groom team member capabilities via active coaching, and identify skill/ability mismatches
  • Maintain contact with strategic partners and outside peers to remain current with industry trends and best practices
  • Participate in negotiations on contracts with third-party service providers as required
