QA Engineer

Location: Sherman Oaks, CA

Our Direct Client in Sherman Oaks, California is hiring a QA Engineer to be part of their growing team in a direct hire role

This position plays a key role within the IT Quality Assurance Department. The candidate will be a member of an Agile software development team and ensure that Quality Assurance tests are written, executed and automated. The most important part of this position is the API testing piece.

The position requires a strong testing background with the ability to put software through its paces using various testing techniques, including white and gray box testing. The ideal candidate will also possess functional test automation and API/ micro services testing experience . The QA engineer will require excellent communication skills (interpersonal, listening, written and oral) in order to work alongside an Agile software development team. The candidate will be required to communicate defect findings to software engineers and to work closely with Product Manager to ensure User Acceptance Test is conducted successfully. The candidate must be a strong communicator, self-motivated, organized and thorough with attention to detail.

Essential Functions:

  • Actively participate in requirement gathering sessions and sprint planning
  • Review user stories, acceptance criteria, specifications and other available information in order to develop test plan and test cases
  • Develop test cases and test scenarios based on iteration content to support appropriate test coverage of user stories
  • Execute test cases and write defects as issues are identified and provide recommendations to aid software development bug resolution
  • Participate in all type of testing including Functional, Regression, Integration and End to End testing
  • Identify test cases for automation of Regression and Functional Tests. Assist automation team with writing test scripts, executing automation test and reporting defects
  • Work with team members to proactively identify, communicate and resolve issues and risks that impact quality of the deliverables
  • Create Performance test metrics and execute Performance test when required
  • Understand business processes and product roadmap, analyze impacts of application changes on Regression test plan, Performance test and automation
  • Generate software builds using Jenkins/Hudson
  • Generate Quality Assurance reports and provide test metrics as needed
  • Foster a Quality culture within Client

Requirements:

  • Solid knowledge of industry standard Software Development Life Cycle methodologies
  • Experience with Agile methodologies
  • Estimating, prioritizing, planning and coordinating testing activities
  • Experience working with requirements from both internal and external customers to create business-driven test cases
  • Ability to develop detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test plans and test cases
  • Ability to use and run automated test and to report the results
  • Ability to develop and execute Performance test and report the results
  • Hands-on experience with Selenium Web Driver
  • Ability to use version control such as GitHub
  • Experience with Continuous Integration tools like Hudson or Jenkins
  • Experience testing web-based systems and services (.NET, Java, Swing, HTML, XML)
  • Experience with SQL and databases
  • Familiar with testing web service APIs (e.g. HTTP, REST, and SOAP)
  • 2-3 years of experience with Performance testing tools like Jmeter
  • 3-5 years of Software Quality Assurance experience
  • 2-3 years of automation test experience
  • 3-4 years of Agile Software Development Methodology experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Be able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Exposure to testing methodologies (TDD/BDD, unit testing)
