The UNIX Engineer III is a specialist engineering position that works on on-site and Hybrid IT installations, upgrades, standardizations, and maintenance and repair of Linux/Unix operating systems.  This position independently manages medium to large Unix/Linux environments, and ensures customer satisfaction by advising customers on preventive maintenance and configurations which may impact product performance. 
The UNIX Engineer III takes ownership of complex customer facing and onboarding project efforts, works on customer facing projects across organizational departments and teams in support of delivering solutions to clients.  This position also is responsible for delivering and creating solutions to ensure effectiveness and efficiency while providing technical planning, implementation, configuration, support and troubleshooting services on one of product lines or service groups sponsored by the company.

  • Provide leadership in the installation, configuration, migration, transitioning and implementation of Unix/Linux solutions to Company and industry standards. Analyze complex systems problems and implement solutions. Create and contribute to procedures for IT installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
  • Continuously identify problems and lead/champion improvements while working toward developing and deploying temporary and permanent fixes.
  • Effectively consult with customers on strategy, technology solutions and improvements to their infrastructure using industry best practices. Create presentations and effectively present solution proposals to technical and customer audiences.
  • Continually develop and enhance technical operating procedures and documentation to improve upon efficiency and effectiveness of Operations. Provide input on architecture, roadmaps, and best practice standards. Seek and recommend alternative processes to improve service delivery to the customer in a cost effective way. Proactively attend technical forums and study journals to keep up with changes in technology.
  • Conduct technical peer reviews of change plans and activities, while providing recommendations, guidance, and authorization as appropriate.
  • Uphold documentation standards and maintain customer documentation on internal server.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field OR 4+ years of professional experience.
  • 5+ years’ experience with at least one Server Operating Systems (Unix, Linux, Microsoft).
  • Availability to consult, assist and/or perform after-hours support and participate in on-call rotations.
  • Travel up to 25%.
Other Qualifications:
  • Technology experience in (MS-SQL, Oracle, Informix, or MySQL) database administration.
  • Administering or implementing systems infrastructure (Servers, Virtualization, Storage).
  • Server hardware experience.
  • Professional level or higher certification in (Linux, Oracle Virtual Machine (OVM), HP-UX) preferred.
  • ITIL V3 foundation certification preferred.
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills.
  • Expert analytical, statistical, and problem solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to customer satisfaction and quality.
  • Results and execution oriented, self-motivated requiring minimal supervision
  • Advanced communication skills regarding project teams and management
  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office applications.
