Network Architect

Location: Carlsbad, CA
Our Direct Client in Carlsbad California is hiring a Network Architect in a full time role or contract to hire or long term contract opportunity. The client is being very flexible as they want to bring in the right candidate for the role. The client will help in relocation and also be open to sponsorship if the candidate requires it.
The role is 100% onsite. No remote options are allowed. There is also some travel but it is minimal. 
This position will lead efforts to develop and maintain a robust, scalable, secure and cost-effective network architecture.  Ensure network design and implementation projects utilize and conform to the current enterprise network architecture.  Provide support for the architecture review process, management of the enterprise project portfolio, and delivery of key emerging technologies in the network space.  Provide technical leadership to the network and IT infrastructure staff.
  • Translate high-level business strategic planning goals and objectives into network technology requirements and conceptual designs.
  • Develop comprehensive network solutions that meet requirements and integrate into the overall enterprise network and security architecture.
  • Participate in IT infrastructure project design/other reviews and ensure projects satisfy network architecture goals and requirements.
  • Stay abreast of network-related industry, technology and market trends and advise IT leadership on key developments and potential opportunities/threats.
  • Analyze current network environment to identify and address critical deficiencies and lead efforts to continuously improve across all dimensions.
  • Provide technical leadership for network and IT staff by facilitating healthy debate and fostering sound decisions, modeling positive professional behaviors, and helping others develop maturity and excellence.
  • Ensure network architecture/design documentation is accurate and complete, and assist in developing a comprehensive documentation library for all of IT.
  • Other duties as assigned.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
  • Experience designing, implementing, and operating enterprise networks, including backbone, data center, cloud and remote site connectivity solutions.
  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco network devices.
  • Experience with next generation firewalls.
  • Experience with SD-WAN products and services.
  • Experience supporting enterprise Wi-Fi across multiple locations.
  • Experience in load balancing with local and global traffic management solutions.
  • Deep understanding of network protocols, not limited to TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, STP, HSRP, PPP, NAT, SNMP, VoIP, and IEEE 802.1 standards.
  • Experience with internal and external DNS.
  • Experience with IP Address Management (IPAM) systems such as InfoBlox, Solarwinds, etc.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Solarwinds, SCOM, Keynote, AppDynamics, and Nagios.
  • Experience in network security including: Device Hardening, IDS/IPS, SIEM, Firewalls, and IPSec, vulnerability assessment and intrusion detection.
  • Understanding of cloud technology environments, including Software as Service (SaaS), Platform as Service (PaaS), or Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
  • Experience with OpenStack, AWS, Azure or VMware.
  • Ability to document and diagram technical systems and architectures.
  • Ability to maintain and foster sensitivity and respect for a culturally diverse work environment.
  • Ability to display supportive behavior and communicate positively regarding department goals and objectives.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to fulfill assigned commitments in a timely manner within established budgets while achieving quality results.
  • Positive can-do attitude.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and uncertainty.
  • Ability to prioritize and resolve conflict when necessary.
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and/or internationally, if needed.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent industry experience.
  • 7 years’ experience in network architecture/engineering in a medium to large environment.
