Technical Writer

Location: Kenilworth, NJ
Our direct current client is seeking an experienced Technical Writer with experience in a variety of technical documentation.  Must have at least 8 years of technical Writing experience.  Successful candidate will be working on technical documentation covering 3 areas for this client; IT, AV, Merchandising set -up.  Each will include an overview, step by step setup/configuration instructions, wire schematics, and troubleshooting guides. 
The goal for the Documentation phase on this initiative is to provide the appropriate level and amount of documentation for their customer to present to its Branded Partners so they have the opportunity to procure and install the relevant fixtures (as in products) themselves or with their own third parties according to their customers store guidelines.  The technical writer will create the documentation associated with all Digital Signage and Audio-Visual elements for each area of the store.  The technical writer will also use any provided IT documentation and reformat that information so that it fits the working format for the Branded Partners to follow through with these areas as well.
The specific project our client is a working on is some technical documentation – both AV and IT related guides – for retail store buildouts for third parties to do the work. 
The documentation package will include a minimum of the following information:
  • Installation documentation with step by step instructions regarding the installation of the technology elements into the store fixtures.  This will include pictures of actual components and installation processes as well as system drawings and wire diagrams where appropriate.
  • Section check list showing pre-installation requirements, installation check points, and completion criteria.
  • Troubleshooting guides for store employees and escalation information regarding support resources
  • Rack installation
  • Rack component placement and connectivity
  • Master drop map
  • Installation requirements for courtesy services [coax plant/phones]
  • Configuration
    • Aruba 7024 controller
    • Gateways
  • Branded partner phone system and personal business gateway for their use
  • Workstations – Register lead 90, backup 91 location, setup, configuration, and connectivity
  • Retail sales consultant iPad configuration, location, and charging stations
  • Workstation and peripherals setup, connectivity, placement, wire management
  • Network printers [desktop and thermal] install locations, connectivity, and configuration
  • AP placement and configuration
  • Digital messaging w/lift and learn capabilities.  Locations, process, configuration, setup, connectivity
  • Audio demonstration setup, connectivity, configuration
    • Headphones and portable audio
  • Merchandising technologies
    • Apple DCOTA
    • MTI security
    • Marketing iPad and iPhone demonstrability/installation of Customer apps and guided access controls

There are several areas in the list that will require documentation to be provided from our customer to ensure incorporation into the complete documentation package.  These areas are primarily IT based and specific customer solution based from the list above.
The documentation process will include discovery sessions with the appropriate customer staff to ensure the tech writer has all relevant existing documentation to incorporate into the final package as well as to ensure full understanding of the intended process for the Branded Partner IT requirements.  Tech Writer will take/or be provided pictures during the Branded Partner installations in Phase I to incorporate into the package.  Tech writer will create associated drawings and produce all relevant guides and checklists for review and feedback as the documentation process progresses to completion.  Experience in a variety of associated writing tools is a must.  Please also be prepared to provide samples of your work.
