Java Developer

Location: Austin, TX
Our Direct Client is looking to hire a Java Developer for a 6+ months long contract project in Austin, TX.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes, designs, develops, codes and implements programs in one or more programming languages, for a specific assigned software system or systems, offers suggestions and feedback, and develops detailed design document describing program architecture, processes, data and function
  • Develops software programs, follows style and coding guidelines of the project, follows bug tracking and version control procedures of the project and maintains and enhances existing functionality, including fixing defects in other programmer’s code
  • Identifies application, database software, and programming problems
  • Writes program specifications for individual programs
  • Supports integrated applications with an understanding of system integration, test planning, scripting, and troubleshooting
  • Assesses the health and performance of software applications and databases
  • Contributes to the execution and improvement of the software process as needed
  • Establishes, participates, and maintains relationships with internal teams, customers and information technology subject matter experts in order to remain apprised of direction, project status, architectural and technology issues, risks, and functional/integration issues
  • Works with QA team and infrastructure teams to stabilize and complete project functionality, and prepare and deploy software solutions and work with client support to analyze and quickly resolve client issues
  • Provides appropriate research support to business and information technology groups within the organization. Advises on options, impact on other business processes, and system priorities
  • Maintains professional relationships with both internal and external clients and teams, participating in team meetings, code reviews and working closely with both technical and non-technical teams
  • Other duties as required.
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Software Engineering, related field or equivalent studies
• At least 5 years of experience in software development
• Strong skills and experience in software requirements elicitation, analysis and documentation
• Strong skills in functional and technical software design patterns, principles and practices
• Strong development skills in HTML, CSS, Java, JSP, JavaScript
• Strong development skills with relational database SQL (SQL Server and Oracle preferred)
• Experience with WebObjects a plus
• Experience with enterprise web applications (specifically in developing in an n-tier architecture)
• Experience with AJAX, JavaScript, web services, XML, XSLT
• Experience working with “mission critical” applications
• Experience working with unit testing, source control, continuous integration, defect tracking and change management tools
• Strong knowledge of software development processes, methodologies and lifecycles.
• Strong knowledge of relevant software platforms (Windows and Unix environments preferred)
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Strong time management skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Good knowledge of company and department standards
• Familiarity with Healthcare terminology and billing practices is a big plus
