Field Support Technician

Location: Nashville, TN
Our Direct Client in Nashville, Tennessee is hiring a Field Support Technician for a 3-month contract to hire.
 
In this role, you will provide physical data and voice cabling and equipment support.
 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • May perform installation and maintenance of telephone lines, DSL, T1, or special circuits from the telephone company’s point of demarc, inward to the customers equipment.
  • Installation and removal of telecom and data networking equipment to include cabinets, racks, routers, switches, servers, firewalls, modems, PBXs, phone sets, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair telecom and data network cabling issues and work with network support to determine problem source
  • Additional duties may include work on key telephone systems, special voice, data, or video circuits. Install copper and fiber data connections for voice and data equipment
  • Work with phone system admin to support phone system changes and trouble repair
  • Provide escorting of external vendors to network closets and equipment rooms
  • Work with the Field Service Manager, and/or Project Manager to resolve problems when required.
  • Maintain schedules, productivity, and quality standards on all assigned tasks.
  • Maintain safety and security standards at all times on assigned projects.
  • Follow all company policies and procedures on all assigned projects.
  • Respond to any customer concern or questions, or direct them to management for appropriate response.
  • Look for potential roadblocks or hazards that may hinder productivity or schedules on assigned tasks.
Qualifications:
  • Must have fiber optic and copper cabling experience
  • Familiar with Cisco routers and switches and Avaya phone equipment
  • Must have reliable transportation. Job requires coverage of sites between Nashville, TN and Hopkinsville, KY.
  • Technician required to provide own hand tools and basic test equipment such as butt set, cable toner continuity tester, etc.
  • Cable certification testers will be provided by company
  • Must have experience with structured cable installation
  • Experience with installing Corning fiber cabling components
  • Able to work with minimal supervision and communicate work status to management and customer as requested
  • Must interact with multiple contact levels, i.e.; other vendors, all customer staff, project managers and direct management
  • Must be able to determine problem scope from customer and apply technical skills and resources to quickly resolve problems
 
Related Skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
  • Familiarity with asset management systems such as Service Now.
  • Good organizational skills
  • Detail oriented
  • No shift work, occasional overtime during week and weekends. Position also requires on-call availability
