Environment and Release Manager - SAP Technology

Location: Alpharetta, GA
Atrilogy Solutions Group is presently seeking an SAP - Environment & Release Manager (Assistant Director level) for a well-known and prestigious company located in Alpharetta. The ideal candidate will provide a global reach in the environments space and involved in the management of a large, multi-year, enterprise-wide process transformation to an integrated, SAP centric platform. Responsibilities include successful planning, creation, build, upgrade for all application environments to support both program and MST activities related to the ongoing build and testing of releases.

Although not expected to be technically hands on around configuration and build, a technical background is a must to provide experience with regards to the challenges that will be faced. Adherence to protocols, governance and best practice must be demonstrable by this individual.  The Environment Manager will work closely with the Release Manager to ensure that environment requirements are planned and coordinated effectively as part of the overall release schedule and in adherence with the release calendar that must be co-developed between the program and the MST, direct engage with global teams like SQL, Network, Storage, UAM, Applications “Sharepoint, Virtualization, Windows, etc”.

Essential Functions:
  • Demonstrative ability to define, establish and manage environment management processes and procedures for complex and highly integrated SAP solutions
  • Proven track record in Environment Management for highly-complex and integrated applications and environments, with a demonstrable track record in planning, coordinating and preparing environments in a safe, effective manner with no risk to production and non-production environments
  • Good knowledge of Software Development Lifecycle 
  • Deep understanding of Environment Management, specifically for complex SAP implementation programs with dual paths to production
  • Extensive experience working with 3rd party vendors as service providers
  • Proven experience with a Fortune 500 company working in a global environment
  • Excellent PM skills
  • Good knowledge of Service Management tools and, more specifically, Change and Release Management tools
  • Maintain tight linkage with Strategy and Architecture for the future development of the Process Landscape
  • Initiating Service Improvement Programs for the Release Management process
  • Act in a consultant / SME capacity for IT Services functions regarding the Environment Management process
  • Protect the IT Services managed environments from unauthorized changes
  • Engineer the procedures for initial deployment and subsequent process improvements
  • Enforce compliance of the process (implementation, assessment, quality etc.)
  • Work closely with key IT Services functions to ensure alignment and synergy
  • Ensure the process users are sufficiently trained to follow the process
  • Provide quality metrics and reporting to promote compliance and maintain SLA’s
  • Liaise with other Process Leads and global leads to enhance interfaces internal and external to Service Management
  • Analysis of metrics provided by internal and external groups on the capacity, performance, and monitoring areas
  • Chair high impact Post Implementation Reviews (PIR) meetings with the required stakeholders to identify what went wrong during the implementation of failed changes/releases. Provide recommendations and/or define actions to prevent reoccurrences of similar errors/incidents

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
  • Proven track record in Environment Management and Release Management for large, complex and highly integrated application landscapes with specific knowledge of SAP programs with a global template, single production instance and a dual path to production
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Software Development Lifecycle
  • Significant experience of Service Management, Change and Release Management and Quality Management techniques gained through IT program / project delivery and in an IT support environment
  • Experience of working within multi-location teams
  • Experience of working in large programs of work
  • Experience of leading small teams in project delivery
  • Excellent experience in client-facing roles within blue chip organizations
  • Experience of Team Management with multi-location teams
  • Experience of Line Management responsibilities for small teams
  • Ability to build good relationships both within own team and with other teams
  • Ability to work across multiple projects
  • Ability to bring multi-disciplined teams together into one delivery team

Supervision Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate, supervise, and articulate the daily activities of team members and/or business representatives as appropriate
  • Directly and indirectly supervise staff members in the development, implementation, and delivery of systems to business and/or technical requirements
  • As appropriate, set priorities for the team to ensure task completion and coordinate work activities with other supervisors
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
  • Take accountability for the performance and results of a team within own discipline or function
Other Requirements:
  • Experience of having worked on large, global IT deployment programs including preparing for go-live and supporting the immediate post go-live period
  • ITILv3 certification is a plus
  • SAP experience including HANA

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (computer science) or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 10 years IT related experience
  • Approximately 7 years of experience in an IT Change Management related role
  • 10 or more years of SAP experience
  • Experience with infrastructure areas required
  • One or more professional certificates to supplement formal education
  • Good experience in client-facing roles
Certification Requirements:
ITILv3 Expert preferred
